In this course small water and wastewater system operators will learn about chlorine and its alternatives for the disinfection of drinking water and treated wastewater. The course will introduce the criteria for disinfectant selection, including alternative disinfectants like ozone, ultra violet, mixed oxidant systems and peroxide. The students will also look at the various laboratory methods to determine residuals and demonstrations of some of the practical simplified test protocols.
