This one-day course introduces water and wastewater operators to the best practices for excavation, and trenching. The Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires that a competent person oversee these job sites. This course instructs participants about the regulatory requirements for the identification of hazards, soils classification, use of shoring and barrier systems. Training topics include: site set-up procedures, trenching, shoring methods, trench condition safety awareness (weather, soil changes, vibration, spoil bank location, etc.), entry/exit procedures, traffic control, site access control, and communications.
